About the Brand

3000 Years of Science. Thirty Years on the Shelf. A Website Rebuilt for Discovery.

Biotique was founded in 1992 on a conviction that hasn’t shifted in three decades: that Ayurveda’s 3000-year-old formulations and the precision of modern biotechnology belong in the same product.

That conviction built a range with a specific answer for nearly every concern Indian customers face. Acne. Tan removal. Dryness. Uneven skin tone. Dark circles. Sun protection. And considerably more.

Thirty years of products that earned their place in Indian homes. The next frontier was making sure that same trust carried into the moment a customer opened a browser and started looking.

The Brief

Not a Redesign Brief. A Representation Brief.

The brief came to us with one clear direction: not about making the Biotique website look different, but making it work like a brand that had earned the trust it carried.

The product range was there. The architecture to let customers find it, engage with it, and buy without friction was not. The rebuild had one destination: a digital experience built around what Biotique’s customers were actually trying to do. Discover the right product. Transfer the trust they already had. Complete the purchase.

Six objectives defined that scope:

  • Revamp the UI/UX to make the full product range discoverable and genuinely engaging.
  • Reduce bounce rates by building an experience worth staying in and exploring.
  • Build a checkout journey that converts interest into purchase without asking for effort.
  • Deliver a mobile experience built for the way most visitors actually arrive.
  • Improve website performance so discovery is never blocked by a loading screen.
  • Implement SEO so the right customers find Biotique when they search for what it makes.

Challenges

Five Frontiers. One Rebuild Waiting to Cross All of Them.

Biotique’s customers weren’t failing to find the brand. They were failing to find it online. Across five structural failures, the website was costing the brand at a different point in the discovery and purchase journey.

  • 01. A First Impression That Wasn’t Creating Curiosity:
Visitors arrived with a skin concern already in mind and left before finding the product that could address it. Not because the brand lacked appeal, but because the opening experience wasn’t creating the conditions for discovery to begin.
  • 02. A Range That Was Wide. Navigation That Made It Feel Like a Wall:
Biotique’s product range is one of its greatest strengths. On the existing website, that strength was invisible. Navigation not built around how skincare customers actually browse was turning a broad, expert range into a confusing one.
  • 03. Performance That Was Blocking Access Before Discovery Could Even Start:
Page load problems were creating a penalty on both sides: users left before they had the chance to browse, and search rankings suffered because performance is a ranking signal. Performance was not a technical inconvenience. It was the gate in front of everything else.
  • 04. A Checkout That Was Stopping Buyers at the Moment They Were Closest:
Customers who found the product they wanted and arrived at checkout were still hitting barriers. Drop-offs were happening at exactly the most costly moment. The gap between intent and transaction was widest right where it most needed to close.
  • 05. Mobile Was Not the Priority. For a Brand Whose Majority of Visitors Arrived on Mobile:
The majority of Biotique’s traffic was arriving on a phone. The site wasn’t built for that reality. The brand was turning away most of its visitors before they had encountered a single product.

The Approach

The Audit Didn’t Start With the Website. It Started With What the Customer Was Trying to Discover.

Before a single design direction was set, a thorough audit mapped where the existing experience was breaking the customer’s journey and what each break was costing the brand. Six decisions came out of that audit. Each one addressed a specific gap the evidence had identified.

01. Rebuilding the Experience Around Discovery, Not Just Layout

The UI/UX revamp was not a visual exercise. Navigation was rebuilt around how a skincare customer actually moves through a decision: starting from a concern, narrowing toward the right product, building enough confidence to buy. The redesigned experience created the conditions for exploration the existing site had never provided.

02. Prototyping the Discovery Journey Before Committing It to Code

Every significant design direction was validated through interactive prototypes before development began. In a category where the path from concern to product is personal and non-linear, prototyping is how assumptions get tested against reality before they become live problems. The first version that shipped was already built around how people actually move.

03. Performance as the Entry Point to Everything Else

Performance improvements were not a separate technical task. They were the precondition for everything else the rebuild was trying to achieve. Speed and SEO were treated as a single problem with a single solution: build the site to perform.

04. A Mobile Experience Designed for the Device, Not Adapted from the Desktop

The mobile experience was built for how skincare customers actually behave on a phone: browsing imagery, reading about formulations, and completing a purchase in one session. Every interface element was designed for the screen it would be used on.

05. SEO as a Discovery Channel, Not an Afterthought

SEO was integrated into the Shopify build as architecture, not applied afterwards as a checklist. Search became part of the discovery system so that a customer searching for the skin concern Biotique already has a product for could find their way there directly.

Technology Stack

Three Platforms. One Commerce Engine with No Manual Seams.

The platforms behind the Biotique rebuild weren’t chosen for their names. They were chosen for their fit. Each one handles a specific function, and all three are integrated so that operations, payments, and order management run together without creating reconciliation overhead between them.

Shopify: Commerce Framework
Scalable, flexible storefront architecture built for D2C brands managing a wide product range at volume.

Razorpay: Payment Gateway
India-first payment processing built for domestic D2C checkout flows, with the reliability a skincare brand’s purchase moment requires.

Unicommerce : OMS and Accounting
Order management and financial reconciliation in a single system, keeping operations and accounts aligned without manual work between them.

The Results

What Opened Up When the Experience Stopped Getting in the Way.

  • Discovery
Rebuilt for the way customers actually explore a range
  • Navigation
Opened the full range to browsing and intent
  • Mobile
Rebuilt for the majority of visitors arriving on phone
  • Performance
Site speed improved across every page category
  • Checkout
Purchase flow rebuilt to close the intent-to-buy gap
  • SEO
Organic discoverability built into the site architecture

Bounce rates fell as the redesigned experience gave visitors a reason to stay and discover. Navigation gave the product range a surface it had never had: wide enough to explore, clear enough to guide, deep enough to reward.

The mobile rebuild reached visitors who had previously been getting a broken experience on the device they arrived on. Performance removed the barrier blocking access before curiosity could form. Checkout converted the intent the rest of the experience was now successfully building.

The Biotique website stopped being the obstacle between the brand and the customers already looking for it.

What the Engagement Made Possible

A Brand with Thirty Years of Earned Trust Now Has a Website That Earns Its Own.

The product range Biotique built over three decades didn’t need a new story. It needed a digital experience capable of telling the one it already had.

When navigation opened, customers found products they didn’t know Biotique made. When mobile worked, the brand became discoverable to the majority of visitors for the first time. When checkout cleared, purchase became the natural conclusion of a journey finally built to lead somewhere.

The website is now a genuine representation of the brand. One where a customer with a specific skin concern can arrive, explore, trust what they find, and complete the purchase without a single moment of friction between their intention and the product already waiting to be discovered.

The Takeaway

The Range Was Always There. The Discovery Experience Was Ready to Match It.

Biotique’s challenge was never recognition or product quality. Millions of customers already knew the brand. The products worked. The next frontier was connecting those two facts to the customer who arrived online with a skin concern already in mind.

When navigation cleared, curious visitors became exploring ones. When pages loaded, they stayed. When mobile worked, the majority of arrivals kept moving. When checkout cleared, intention became purchase. Each step compounded the one before it because they were all unlocking the same journey: a discovery experience finally built for the customer trying to take it.

The discovery experience is the brand experience. When it was finally built to match what Biotique had spent thirty years earning, the website started doing what it was always there to do.
